Larry W. Lockwood, Jr.
If you have been injured in an accident a great deal is at stake. You are hurt, you may or may not get better; your job is on the line if you can’t work; your medical bills will climb to levels that may bankrupt you. If you are lucky enough to survive a car accident, or other injury due to another’s negligence, it doesn’t mean that your life will remain intact. Larry W. Lockwood, Jr. of The Hunter Law Firm was helping injured people before he was even a lawyer. While a paralegal in a very reputable personal injury firm in Roanoke, Virginia, Larry realized his personal need to be on the pointy edge of the sword of justice. So, with his wife and new daughter in tow, he packed up for William and Mary Law School. While in law school, working part time for a law firm to make ends meet, he discovered hundreds of railroad workers exposed to cleaners on the job who suffered brain injury. He went to his lawyer bosses and said “give me the tools and I will get these people justice!” and he did. Larry spent what spare time he had while finishing law school, traveling the East Coast, meeting with injured workers, their doctors, and other leading experts in their field, and many sleepless nights in the library at Eastern Virginia Medical School researching the complicated medical and toxicological issues involved in these cases. The brain injury cases were filed before Larry even had his law license, but the first one set for trial was two weeks after he did and he was lead counsel (which settled on his terms after the first day of trial.) The defendant geared up for the next, and he was lead counsel against three law firms hired by CSX only nine months after Larry graduated from law school. The result; Larry won the largest verdict in the history of the law under which the lawsuit was brought. Larry won many other verdicts, for brain, neurological and other injuries; in states along the East Coast from Ohio through Florida. He likes to say he was “like Erin Brockovich, but without the good looks and charming personality.” Larry then changed his focus from very complex toxic tort litigation involving hundreds of workers, in state and federal courts from Florida to Ohio, to a more local practice focusing on automobile and trucking accident cases, slip and fall cases, medical malpractice and other negligence personal injury cases. In this role, he has obtained millions in settlements and verdicts for his clients. Larry was the youngest lawyer to be admitted to the select Million/Multimillion Dollar Advocates forum and has earned other awards for excellence in the legal field. Larry handles big cases and small. Each client of Larry’s gets personal attention directly from him, and his very experienced staff. To each client he brings the same lifelong passion for justice. Born the son of an U.S. Navy Chief, Larry spent the early years of his life on various naval bases at home and abroad. When his father retired, his family settled on a farm in Stafford County, Virginia. Larry grew up riding horses (sometimes in competitions) and helping around the farm. He attended Mary Washington College, obtaining two degrees; one in Foreign Relations, and another in Political Science. For two years Larry worked for a personal injury law firm in Roanoke, Virginia, then attended William and Mary Law School. He remarried May, 2022 to his lovely bride Vicki and together they have six adult children. Larry and Vicki live full time on a boat, and enjoy sailing, fishing, crabbing, spending time with their adult children and the quiet life living on the Chesapeake Bay provides. When he is not sailing his boat, he is doing major renovations on other boats he owns as a hobby.

James A. Carter, II
My name is James Carter, and I’m the attorney at Hunter Law that specializes in handling those cases that can arise as a result of the grievous transition between life and death. In addition to having the honor of being an attorney here at Hunter Law, I am also the third-generation owner of a prominent local funeral home. As such, I frequently handle matters such as estate planning, probate, real estate transactions, and personal injury, focusing on Wrongful Death and Nursing Home/Funeral Home negligence. I understand the feeling of helplessness that one can experience in the aftermath of a loved one. I personally lost my father unexpectedly as a result of a supposedly simple orthopedic procedure - which ended up leaving him with permanent brain damage and on indefinite life support. I have experienced and endured the process of Wrongful Death and Medical Malpractice litigation not only as an attorney, but as a victim and plaintiff as well, so I am completely aware of and prepared to help you as you navigate these treacherous emotional and legal waters. It is incredibly hard to make important decisions while you are grieving - the best way is to create an incapacity plan in advance and appoint an agent to act for you if you are temporarily impaired. This can make all the difference in peace of mind of your loved ones while they are attempting to process the experience of your infirmity and conduct your affairs while you recover. In the event that you cannot make an informed decision about important health care decisions, it is of paramount importance to appoint an agent with statutory access to your health information in accordance with HIPAA, who can inform your health care provider of your wishes made known in advance, or can make those decisions for you. I can personally attest that handling these issues in advance allowed my family to enact significant corporate, real estate, and financial transactions prior to removing my father from life support, which made the process of probating his estate much easier on the executor and far less costly. Of course, an inconvenient truth is that we are all going to die. Due to our affiliation with outside funeral homes, here at Hunter Law, we have the capacity to plan your estate, pre-plan your funeral rites, probate and serve as executor of your last will and testament, procure for and ensure the attainment of appropriate last rites as of your direction, and administer any remaining Trusts for the benefit of your family. We can provide the complete package with regard to ensuring that at the appropriate time, your transition will be as peaceful and easy as possible for you and your family. Please allow someone with the professional and emotional experience to help you as you undertake the arduous journey of preparing for your incapacity, or losing a loved one - it can make all the difference in how you heal and move forward in the future.
