When Crashes Happen

Crash Severity Breakdown

Road & Environmental Conditions
The distribution of crashes across environmental conditions showed little change year-over-year. Vehicles & Demographics
The top five vehicle makes involved in crashes were identical in both periods: Honda, Toyota, Ford, Nissan, and Chevrolet, with counts for each increasing in 2021. The demographic distribution of persons involved in crashes also remained consistent. The 26-34 age group was the most represented in both 2021 (17.5% of persons) and 2020 (17.6% of persons), indicating no significant shift in the age of individuals involved in collisions.

Speed Limit Zones
Roads with a posted speed limit of 25 mph accounted for the highest number of crashes in both years, increasing from 27,068 in 2020 to 30,366 in 2021. While crash counts rose in most speed zones, the fatal crash rate per 100 crashes declined in several key zones. This dataset contains official police-reported motor vehicle traffic crash records maintained by the reporting jurisdiction's law enforcement agency.
