About Derek

Derek Monzon is a Trial Attorney at Sargent Law Firm. Derek is from Louisville, Kentucky and attended University of Louisville for his undergraduate degree in Psychology (Go Cards!). While at UofL, Derek was named to the Dean’s List and was part of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. In 2014, Derek obtained his Juris Doctor from University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, where he was a KLEO Scholar. Derek is admitted to practice in California, Washington, Kentucky, and Indiana. After being admitted to the California Bar, Derek worked as a Plaintiff’s attorney representing injury victims in the Bay Area and later as an insurance defense attorney in Orange County, handling cases for a large “Farm” insurance company where he learned how the defense evaluates, litigates, and tries cases. Derek then worked as a Plaintiff’s attorney at a large personal injury firm in Los Angeles where he litigated hundreds of cases on behalf of his clients. Derek was part of trial teams which obtained millions of dollars in awards/verdicts, including a trial where the jury returned a multi-million dollar verdict for a deserving client. While working at Sargent Law Firm in 2023, Derek received a $9.5 million dollar settlement for our client, which was a “Top 20 Premises Liability in the US” and “Top 50 Personal Injury Settlement in the US” that year. When Derek isn’t battling insurance companies, he enjoys playing guitar, traveling, exploring new places, hiking, bicycling, spending time with his wife and family, and going to the beach. Derek is known for his ambition, compassion, and tenacity to fight for justice for his clients. We are thankful to have Derek on our team!
