Stephen J. Smith graduated from St. John's University in 1974 and the University of Minnesota Law School in 1979, where he served on the Minnesota Law Review. He practiced in Minneapolis before returning to Owatonna in 1981. He has held positions on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Insurance Guaranty Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association Task Force on Tort Reform, and the Minnesota Supreme Court Standing Committee on No-Fault Arbitration. He is a member of the Steele County and Minnesota State Bar Associations and the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association. He practices corporate and transactional law, commercial litigation, health care law, personal injury, and general personal and business practice.
