Bill Cooney is a partner who has been with the firm since 1996. Mr. Cooney is a trial attorney who has handled cases from inception through trial throughout New York State in jurisdictions ranging from the five boroughs of New York City to Albany, Rochester, and Buffalo. He has also represented clients in other state and federal proceedings in New England, the mid-Atlantic States, and California. Mr. Cooney specializes in the defense of companies in high-exposure cases. Through close work with risk managers, corporate counsel, and insurance company representatives, Mr. Cooney deftly defends companies to extract them from these cases with minimal cost. Mr. Cooney has represented numerous product manufacturers, contractors, and suppliers in cases involving complex personal injury claims, property damage claims, wrongful death claims, subrogation claims, and environmental exposure claims. He has served as national counsel for various clients and has coordinated the defense of their products liability litigation. Mr. Cooney began his career as a prosecutor with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office where he tried misdemeanor and felony cases and argued several appeals in the Appellate Division, Second Department. Mr. Cooney graduated from Pace University School of Law in 1990. Mr. Cooney was the Research and Writing Editor of the Pace Environmental Law Review and authored “A Victory for Freshwater Wetlands”, 7 Pace Environmental Law Review 357 (1990).
