A Roanoke jury awarded $2.4 million to Ken 'Dan' Rothgeb, a 52-year-old former Norfolk Southern locomotive engineer, who tripped over a discarded joint bar and landed on a switch stand in the Waynesboro yard, breaking his back. The accident occurred during a nighttime shift.
