After growing up on military bases in Japan, Bernie served in the United States Air Force as a 'Tech Controller' who maintained telecommunication circuits for missile warning systems and intelligence networks from 1993 to 1997. He then entered the private sector, where he provided expert-level technical support on national and international broadband fiber optic networks for a global telecommunications company from 1997 to 2009.
