Her work as a contract attorney for the Public Defender’s Office of New Jersey allowed her to represent indigent clients and juveniles. "During my time as the managing attorney of the Immigration Program of Catholic Charities, I served the undocumented population, defending individuals’ rights to seek asylum and providing legal counsel to families who have been separated and fighting against related policies." It was during this time that she saw a dire need for competent Spanish-speaking attorneys. The stories had similar themes, undocumented persons having no knowledge of their rights.
