Robert J Milavetz founded the law firm now known as Milavetz, Law, P.A. in 1963. He was a graduate of U High and the University of Minnesota, and earned his Juris Doctor degree at William Mitchell College of Law. He was a champion of the First Amendment, representing clients in cases involving free speech and conscientious objector status during the Vietnam war. He was a certified trial lawyer specialist, won many significant appellate court decisions, and was named a Super Lawyer and Minnesota Attorney of the Year in 2009. He was a named Plaintiff in a U.S. Supreme Court case (Milavetz, Gallop & Milavetz, P.A. v. United States of America, 559 US 229 (2010)) concerning attorneys' First Amendment rights related to bankruptcy advice. He was a fierce litigator for 61 years, fighting for civil rights, free speech, and compensation for injuries.
