Litigation and trial counsel in a premises liability matter prosecuted on behalf of four North Carolina Residents injured in a structural collapse at an apartment complex in Montgomery, Alabama. Our clients had traveled to Alabama for a graduation ceremony and sustained life altering injuries when a second story landing at an apartment complex collapsed and dropped them approximately 12 feet to the ground. Before trial, the apartment complex’s insurance company offered approximately $7,000,000 to settle the cases. After a five-week trial, the jury returned combined compensatory damages verdicts of $24,500,000 and a punitive damage verdict of $250,000. The case is reported as the highest jury verdict in Alabama for 2015 and 83rd highest jury verdict in the country.
