Steve Hanagan

Since 1984, Steve Hanagan has limited his law practice to representing injury victims and their families in personal injury and workers compensation cases. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administrative Sciences from Southern Illinois University in 1980 and a Juris Doctoris degree with honors from St. Louis University School of Law in 1984. He was a recipient of the American Jurisprudence publisher’s Award for Excellence in the study of Legal Ethics, 1983. He is the author of 'Third Party Recovery and Subrogation,' Chapter 11, of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Workers’ Compensation Handbook, and 'Workers’ Compensation,' Chapter 7, of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Starting Points. He has served as President of the Jefferson County Illinois Bar Association for multiple terms and is a Charter member of the Southern Illinois American Inn of Court. He maintains membership in the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois Bar Foundation, and the Jefferson County Bar Association. Brian McGovern

Since 1998, Brian McGovern has concentrated his practice in the areas of personal injury, workers compensation, and Social Security disability law in the southern Illinois region. He attended Southern Illinois University for his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Southern Illinois University School of Law for his Juris Doctorate degree in 1994. He is licensed to practice in the Courts of Illinois, the United States Federal District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He is the author of 'Workers’ Compensation,' Chapter 7, of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Starting Points. He has served as President of the Jefferson County Illinois Bar Association and holds memberships in the American Associations for Justice, Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Jefferson County Bar Association. Morris Lane Harvey

Morris Lane Harvey was recommended by his peers to be named a Leading Illinois Attorney in the area of family law. Fewer than 8% of Illinois attorneys have this distinction. Derek Baker

Derek Baker grew up Bourbonnais Illinois, having spent his childhood near Minneapolis Minnesota. He began his legal practice working in the western suburbs of Chicago for a law firm that practiced exclusively family law. He represented clients in divorce, property division, child custody and visitation, adoption, support, modification, and post decree relief matters. As Derek’s interest in litigation grew, he began working with a general practitioner near Chicago focusing on family, personal injury, criminal, bankruptcy and real estate matters. He regularly would appear in court, advocating on behalf of clients in contested and uncontested family, criminal, and traffic matters. While at St Louis University School of Law, he worked for over one and a half years at a high volume civil litigation law firm in downtown St. Louis, which represented clients in both Missouri and southern Illinois. He has experience advocating on behalf of plaintiffs in automobile collisions, medical malpractice, slip and fall, and dog bite matters. Furthermore, while at St. Louis University Law School he participated in the law clinic where he appeared in court representing indigent clients in landlord/tenant disputes and contesting fines and tickets for ordinance violations.

Chelbie A. Mitchell

Chelbie A. Mitchell joined Harvey & Baker, P.C. as an associate in early 2019. Chelbie was born and raised near Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She attended both Rend Lake Community College and Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, pursuing an undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in criminal justice. Following her bachelor’s degree, she attended Southern Illinois University School of Law, where she obtained her juris doctor, graduating cum laude in May 2017. During the early years of Chelbie’s career, she practiced personal injury defense in the metro-east area, focusing primarily on auto accident litigation. Her passion for service in her community brought her back to the Mt. Vernon area in early 2019. While attending Southern Illinois University School of Law, Chelbie was the commentary managing editor of the Journal of Legal Medicine and a Taylor Mattis Fellow. The Journal of Legal Medicine published Chelbie’s commentary titled, From Dark Dens to Suburban Townhouses: Creating a Centralized System for Prescription Opiate Monitoring to Combat the Addiction Epidemic in the United States, in 2018. She worked as a research assistant and co-author on the Health Care Legal Newsletter for the Illinois State Bar Association for about two years as well. She also received a specialization in Health Law and Policy. During her education, Chelbie spent some time in various legal offices and courthouses throughout Southern Illinois.
