John earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Columbia University in 1980, and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1983. While studying at the University of Maryland, John clerked for the Maryland Tax Court, and upon graduation, was a judicial law clerk in Circuit Court for Carroll County for the Honorable Luke K. Burns, Jr. from 1983-1984. John joined the firm in 1987 following three years of private practice in Baltimore County.
