About Harold
Harold A. Katz was a founding partner of the law firm with Irving Friedman over 50 years ago. He represented the UAW and successfully prosecuted an unfair labor practice complaint against a multi-national corporation. He authored two major labor law books and several articles, including a classic 1956 Harvard Law Review article that spawned the "Crashworthiness Doctrine." He lectured on labor and employment discrimination subjects and chaired various organizations. He was inducted as a Laureate in the Illinois Academy of Lawyers and received other awards. He served as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives for nine terms, special counsel to the Governor of Illinois, and a Master-in-Chancery. He earned his B.A. in economics from Vanderbilt University in 1943, and a J.D. in 1948 and M.A. in labor economics in 1958 from the University of Chicago. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1948, U.S. Federal Courts in 1948, and U.S. Supreme Court in 1955.
