George Lohmeier grew up in Clinton, Iowa and spent the first four years after high school graduation serving in the United States Navy aboard an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon being honorably discharged, he studied at Florida State University and spent summers working as a brakeman on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Having earned a degree in political science, he moved to Indianapolis to attend Indiana University School of Law. Three years later, in 1978, George passed the Indiana Bar Exam and began serving as deputy prosecutor in Morgan County. He later established himself in Indianapolis and began to concentrate in the areas of divorce and child custody in addition to criminal defense.
